Ah prom, that one time in a teenagers life when everyone dresses up all fancy in gowns, gets their hair done and takes millions of pictures of themselves all dolled up. Unless of course you live on the Upper East Side and attend Constance Billard school for girls (Gossip Girl reference). My special day came right around the corner, and before I knew it I was celebrating the ending of my high school years. What a night! In all honesty, I didn’t have very high expectations for my prom night, which I think made my night even better. I spent the night with some of my closest friends, and we had the best time.

I received my dress from BHLDN, who didn’t disappoint. The stylists were extremely helpful and even sent me fabric and colour samples prior to the final purchase of my dress. My hair was another roller coaster. I was so hesitant to go with a braided crown and flowers, but I risked it and my hairdresser pulled it of. It quickly became my favourite part of the look. The shoes were from Topshop because, of course, I had to add a little bit of edge to my classic, bohemian look.

Dinner in the City

Last night, I went downtown for dinner with friends at local restaurant iBurger. This fancy, futur-esque burger joint is stocked up with electronic menus on the tabletops, and a variety of options for each meal. The concept is unique and creative, and I love it! Sure, it could use a few tweaks, but it was a really cool experience! Anyways, this one caught my eye; a sushi burger! It was stacked with two layers of rice (the bread), avocado (the lettuce), tuna tartare (the meat) and mango (hmm… a little extra!). It wasn’t your traditional burger, and you certainly needed to use a fork and knife, but boy was it good! I would definitely have it again. It was funny to have a sushi burger with fries, but it tasted surprisingly good. The french fries were delicious as well. The perfect mix between crispy and soft, they had the homemade fry taste. We all enjoyed our meals, and the service was fabulous.

Rock ‘N Share Benefit Concert

Last night, my band The DayDreamers and I performed with some of our good friends. It was a benefit concert that I organized, called Rock ‘N Share, and all the proceeds went to Dans La Rue, a Montreal organization that aids children living on the streets. I was so fortunate to play in front of such an amazing and supportive crowd, and we raised over $1300 towards the charity.

Christmas Moments

Christmas 2013 Collage

This Christmas was definitely one to remember! As I look back on it, I remember all those tiny moments that sometimes we forget. Those moments, however, are the ones that meant the most. Spending time with my family, friends, the dog, even those times alone.

This year I was extremely fortunate to have my oldest friend, who at a young age moved to Florida, come and visit us here in Montreal. It was so amazing to reconnect with her, especially since we have only seen each other on two other occasions in the last eleven years that we have been apart.

On another note, I just started doing these instagram collages, and they are so much fun! I think I might start doing this for all my posts… Just kidding! But definitely expect this for some posts!

Anyways, I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas, and I wish you all the best in the New Year!

Happy Halloween!

I always love Halloween. Seeing all the creative costumes, the fun decorations, and especially the candy! I mean, who doesn’t love the chance to get free candy? Okay, maybe most of us are a little too old for trick-or-treating now, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still dress up! This year has been so busy, I had to resort to a last minute costume. So, I’m a cat, and thanks to my cousin who helped me find these cat ears last minute!! I must say, last year I had a really great costume. My best friend and I dressed up as the ultimate duo, Salt & Pepper. That was so much fun.

I hope everyone is having a great Halloween, and make sure you all get some candy!!

The Sweetest Sixteen (Part 2)

Yesterday was my birthday, and oh how sweet it was!

I started off the morning by writing the majority of my thank you cards! Somehow, mom always captures the moment in her photos. All my gifts from the night before were still around me!

Also, you might have realized this already, but I am absolutely in love with my sweet sixteen dress! I don’t think there has ever been anything else I would wear two days straight in a row!

My amazing godmother gave me this lovely Tiffany necklace the night before, and it’s so gorgeous that I had to put it on.

I opened the presents from my parents, and got quite a few lovely surprises! They got me the most beautiful pair of earrings!!

From there, we headed downtown for a bit of shopping, and then sushi for dinner! Yum!

Thank you everyone once again for all the birthday wishes!!

xoxo, Ali

The Sweetest Sixteen

Last night, I had my sixteenth birthday party! I had my dad’s side of the family over, all five of his siblings and my many cousins, second cousins, etc. I also had ten or so friends, all close ones, to celebrate the day. I didn’t want something too extravagant, so it was a simple party. Still one of the best nights of my life! My band and I performed, and the theme revolved around Rock ‘N Roll. Obviously, with all the other stuff that has been going on, this was sort of a last minute thing, and I only got the invitations out a two weeks earlier. Here are just a few photos of the night.

Going with the theme (and my party invitations), I made a few decorations for around the house. There were an array of records around the house, each with one of my favorite songs of all time.

Blowing out the candles!

My lovely parents and I!

My amazing and wonderfully creative mother made her special carrot cake, in the shape (and colours too) of my guitar!! It was amazing! I didn’t get any good photos of it unfortunately, I was too caught up in the moment!

This was my special creation. One of the desserts, was this ice cream bar, that ended up being a huge hit, not only for the kids but also the adults!!

And of course, my lovely second cousin Mia and I!

The night was amazing! I ended up staying awake until 3:30 am, opening all my gifts and jumping up and down. I was just too excited to go to sleep. John, our family friend, stayed after and we enjoyed some more wine (for the adults) and the lovely laughter of the evening. It was all unforgettable!

So today is my actual birthday, and after last night, I don’t know how much better it could get!

Anyways, I’m off to write my thank you cards!

Handmade Jewelry: Spring/Summer 2013

Each and every year, for the past five, I have sold my handmade jewelry to friends, family and locals. From bracelets to necklaces and even earrings, I’ve always got something up my sleeve. I find local beads and create whatever my heart desires. This year though, I found a new bead source. While visiting New York again in march with my mom, we decided to spend an afternoon in the garment district, shopping for fabric, trimming, and of course, beads. I get my artistic skills from my mother, so of course she was just as overjoyed as I when I spotted these exotic and up-and-coming bead trends. We ended up buying a bunch of different beads, and I have now completed my SS 2013 Collection.

This is almost the full collection of bracelets, minus the few single strands of black and some of the skulls.

Most of them come in various colours and other options as well.

The skulls are available in other colours too, including pink, turquoise, dark blue and white.

All the bracelets are also available in either gold or silver accents.

So, let me know. What do you all think? I’ve been getting a lot of orders lately, and I think this year has been my biggest success so far!
